The reality: life with the 13 year cicadas

After the wonder and marvel of watching them hatch a couple of weeks ago, here is the not-so-fun reality of actually living with THOUSANDS of cicadas. Taken in my yard... As for the noise? Deafening. It is going to be a LONG 4 weeks (span of mating/life cycle)...

13 Year Cicadas have hatched here in St. Louis...

The news of their pending arrival has been all over the news, though I never expected to catch the 13 year cicadas in the PROCESS of hatching in my own front yard?!

Last week, I let Poppy out just before bed. When I went outside to retrieve her, she was frantically running around the yard. A flip of the light- cicadas EVERYWHERE. THOUSANDS of them, on the ground and in the trees. I quickly retrieved the boys out of bed (hello, this only happens 1x every 13 years). Here are some of the photos that we caught in our PJs with flashlights... Looks like it is going to be one LOUD summer, St. Louis!
