Until my boys outgrew it, my parents religiously took them to Art Start at the St. Louis Repertory Theater, one Saturday a month (during the winter months) for years. It was their monthly "grandparent activity" with my boys, and they equally enjoyed it as much as the children. After ranting and raving to friends and coworkers about the program for years, I find it shocking how few people actually still know about it?!
PER THE REP'S SITE... The Rep hosts Kids ArtStart, a FREE art event, on the first Saturday of each month from October through April at 10 a.m. Each Kids ArtStart event gives young children an introduction to the arts in an event that allows families to share the arts experience.
Each event takes place at the Loretto-Hilton Center in Webster Groves with local arts organizations and members of the artistic community partnering in the presentations. Additional partners are added throughout the season.
IN MY OPINION: ArtStart is the PERFECT way to expose your children to the Arts while having FUN! Every month is different from the last and includes hands-on interactive fun geared to capture the attention of little ones. From pottery and decoupage to puppets and dancing... the program truly embraces and encourages the innate creativity of children.
