CLOSED: #5004 Annette in Shrewsbury

Nothing says "Happy Friday" like this...

Lovely Annette just closed escrow at US Title and my awesome Buyers will settle into their cool little 1939 Moderne era bungalow this weekend.  Yippee!

My clients come to me from a variety of places, but there is nothing more fun or heartwarming than to represent someone who is a childhood connection.  Mr. Buyer was a Henderson house regular as one of my brother's best friends.  To have the opportunity to befriend his amazing wife and meet their adorable children has been SUCH a treat!  Particularly as with 2 boys close in age, their life is a mirror image of mine... we are just a little further along.  To witness those boys eagerly attack the backyard playground with enthusiasm was truly the "YOU HAVE FOUND THE ONE" moment on this transaction. The best!

Welcome Home, Team Annette and thank you for your trust, friendship, and tenacity.  Gorgeous home, wonderful family, and a perfect match!

If you are contemplating a 2020 move, the market is still moving as rates remain at record low, friends. I am an incredibly COVID-19 safe and aware agent.  I have established new virus business protocols to ensure the safety of your family (and mine), while taking advantage of this incredible market!  Let's connect...

Under contract: #5004 Annette in Shrewsbury

These cutie pies have a new playground and their parents have a unique 1939 Art Moderne style bungalow to call their very own. As a local artist, Mrs. Buyer was swooned by the interesting lines accented by the architectural goodies nestled between the ornate pre-war Gingerbreads and the post-war clean utilitarian style.

I am so SO happy for this sweet family of four. Some things are meant to be and this one truly was! Annette closes escrow in 4 short weeks. Congrats M-T family.❤️

Sycamore, Illinois architecture never disappoints!

I have admired this 1886 Queen Anne style mansion for more than 20 years in my husband’s hometown...

I was surprised to find it on the market during our recent visit. 8000sqft and ready for it? Only 450k. 3 finished stories, original silk wallpaper, untouched woodwork in pristine condition, pocket doors galore, 9 functional fireplaces, a carriage house, and gorgeous grounds. So many lovely original architectural goodies that I had to share!

Iowa College tours, historic estates!

College Tour Summer 2019 continues in Casa de Nenonen as our youngest nears closer to his Senior year.  Back to school in 2 weeks!

I have mentioned numerous times here on the blog over the years that I earned my real estate license while my youngest was in utero.  The older he gets?  There is no doubt that the love for historic architecture is in his blood! Hence, the perfect finale to his Iowa college tours? A tour of the lovely Salisbury Estate in Des Moines...

Built in 1923 by Carl Weeks, the inventor of foundation makeup, the estate was modeled after this beauty...
The handsome 14th century King's House in Salisbury, England.

The original projected budget for the Week estate started at $150,000... but ended with the final cost of a whopping 3 million. It is a spectacular blend of architectural styles and interesting salvaged architectural goodies from all over the world.  I highly recommend a visit to the museum if ever in the Des Moines area.❤️

A teeny peek at our tour...

Learn more about the history of the estate here...

As far as my boy goes...
While it has been fun times exploring the country with him this summer in pursuit of his dream college, now the choice is up to him!  We shall see.

Hidden Gem: A St. Louis Lemp Style Halloween

Nothing screams "St. Louis Halloween Spooktacular"...
... like a haunted walking history tour of the Lemp complex and Cherokee Neighborhood at night?!  Last night, Steve and I gathered with some of my Coldwell Banker Gundaker coworkers for a little Halloween fun. Ack!

If you are from St. Louis, you likely know all about the legend of the Lemp family, the unfortunate Prohibition demise of one of the largest brewers in the country, and the string of "unfortunate incidents" that resulted in the old family mansion becoming one of the most notorious in the United States for alleged hauntings!

On this tour you get to hear all about the tragic history of the Lemp Family, learn the locations of the lost Lemp Neighborhood Cemeteries, and enjoy the gorgeous Cherokee Neighborhood architecture at night as they share other spooky tales of more haunted and historical locations along the tour route.

The St. Louis Paranormal Society is actually BASED in the old Lemp Brewery complex at the base of Antique Row and offer tours several nights per week.  Check out their website for more information at https://www.seeaghost.com/ or find them on Facebook HERE.

If you want to tour the Lemp mansion ITSELF, they actually offer guided tours every Monday, year round.  They also have a fabulous restaurant, offer fun mystery dinners, and have overnight accommodations for the brave at heart. Learn more at http://www.lempmansion.com/index.html

There is also an October haunted house in the complex and trust me, IT IS FRIGHTENING!
It involves taking an old warehouse elevator down to the caverns and um, yeah. Been there, done that (thanks to the coaxing of my teenage boys) and not sure I will do it again?!  Ha ha.  Brave?  Learn more HERE.

TIP:
Whatever you choose, make sure that you round out the evening at Ted Drewes for a "Great Pumpkin" concrete...
The best! 👻

Playful Painted Lady

Lady, you sure know how to stand out in the crowd...
This 1913 Peoria home was built as an American 4 Square with Victorian ornaments added over a century. Playful, isn’t she?  Every time I head up to Bradley University to visit my eldest, I always stop to admire her!❤️

Hidden Gem: Plank Road Pizza and Blooming Daisy Marketplace in Cottleville

It has been far too long since my last Hidden Gem post!  A quick lunch hour run out to Cottleville to pick up Steve's race packet for the Missouri Cowbell run a couple of weeks ago...
... was the perfect excuse to enjoy a Friday lunch in the sunshine with my hubby!  My friends and coworkers have been buzzing about Plank Road Pizza...
...so I figured it was the perfect lunch destination as they are known for their cute patio in the historic downtown area. In fact, Plank Road Pizza sits in the oldest home in Cottleville, circa 1845, and is named after the old connector road of St. Charles and Cottleville that was originally made of timber planks!

While hello, you ARE on CDN and the City and you know that I was curious about the history of the building, HERE is the listing from when the owner purchased the property. I appreciate that they reintroduced reclaimed elements BACK in to the space so it now oozes historic charm from inside to out...
Particularly the patio, which was pure perfection on a 70's and sunny St. Louis day...
All of the hand-tossed artisan pizzas are named after streets in the St Charles and Cottleville area and are delicious!
The charming patio alone would prompt a revisit from us, though the food is the reason that we will return. Choose a sunny day and just go!  You won't be sorry.

In fact,  choose a not-so-sunny day as the interior is just as charming as the exterior!  Warm, inviting, and cozy.  Interior photo below compliments of the Riverfront Times...

When you visit Plank, I also urge you to walk just behind the restaurant and pop your head in to the Blooming Daisy Marketplace.  A tandem visit to these two gems is a perfect afternoon, in my opinion...
This 1910 farm house turned wonderfully eclectic boutique, dedicated strictly to providing booth space to local artisans, oozes charm (and goodies)!  NOTE: Check out the photos of this old listing before you visit as you will be SHOCKED that it is the same structure.  The space is amazing now!

Blooming Daisy carries everything from clothing and jewelry to home decor, personalized monogrammed items, and antiques.  You rarely see the same item twice as the vendors  continuously rotate their seasonal stock, making it a terrific gift destination. They also host monthly pop-up markets where they invite DOZENS of local vendors to fill their lawn and sell their newest goods!  If you enjoy shopping Etsy, Crafted In St. Louis on FB, or Joy's Collective... you will ADORE Blooming Daisy!  Parent Tip: bring the kiddies along, as they are encouraged and allowed to feed the goats in the back acreage.  Yes, I said goats.

Want a glimpse of what is in stock? Their Instagram is updated regularly with their latest and greatest items.  They are a must-follow for me!
