I have been itching to write this post ALL WEEK, as I have an AMAZING find! I have shared before that as the owners of a fixer-upper (and with our recent household debacle), Steve and I ALWAYS seem to have a project going on. Since moving into this house, scenes like below have been fairly common...
New paint, refinished floors, new baseboard, new moldings around the windows in our Living Room/Dining Room.
The foyer sub floor needed to be strengthened under this ceramic tile, said the cracking grout, so we ripped it out and replaced the foyer with marble.
These are just a few of the dozens of renovations that we have completed.
While we outsource some of the projects, we have also done a bulk of the work ourselves. The major issue with DIY projects, however? Disposal. Always an issue and major pain in the rear, to put it bluntly. Too much garbage to put out on the curb and incredibly stringent rules about construction debris (ex: nail removal). That beings said, we rarely have enough debris to justify renting a $500, 10 cubic yard dumpster. We couldn't come close to filling it and they often have a 2-3 day limit. This has been an issue with EVERY SINGLE project that we have taken on.
Blog World- meet our latest project...
Embarrassing. This sad 1960's dark/dank closet in our basement laundry room was not as bad at as looked in the photo- it was WORSE. Horrible, HORRIBLE. We finally got around to tearing it out, along with the paneling, and have made much progress...
Closet ripped out. Paneling gone. Walls properly insulated. Drywall hung, mudded, taped, and prepped for paint. A beautiful thing, people! Plans are for a wall of cabinets and storage galore... we can't wait. What to do with the project debris, however? Once again an issue though after a little research, I found my new best friend...
Internet- meet Bagster. This $30 purchase from Lowe's has changed life here in Casa de Nenonen. It is brilliant, plain and simple. Within an hour of purchasing the Bagster, it looked like this on our curb...
It fit every ounce of construction debris that we had and then some. It is shocking how much Bagster holds and how durable it is, honestly. The above has 10+ sheets of paneling, a dozen 2x4s WITH nails, 2 old doors, 5-6 half sheets of sheet rock, a sink, a small cabinet, an old mirrored vanity, and more. Steve even tossed in an old garbage can that we have been meaning to replace.
Next step: hop on the Internet, set your preferred pickup appt., prepay the St. Louis County Waste Management fee...
... and voila. 2 days later, during our preferred pickup time, Bagster (and all of our mega junk) was gone. It was that easy. Steve and I will never, yes I say NEVER, do another small scale DIY project without Bagster. Hence, I had to share. Below is a list of accepted materials...
